A Symposium on Building Inclusive Organizations to be held October 31

July 11, 2018

Ames, IA - The Ames Chamber of Commerce has partnered with the City of Ames Human Relations Commission and Iowa State University Division of Diversity and Inclusion to host A Symposium on Building Inclusive Organizations: Practical Strategies for Business Development & Community Engagement.

This half-day event on October 31, 2018, will provide practical strategies towards building more inclusive workplaces in Ames and Story County.

“We’re excited to announce this great event,” said Dan Culhane, President and CEO of the Ames Chamber of Commerce. “We want to raise the profile of this important topic, as we believe this will benefit our members and the entire business community. The programming we are putting together will empower our attendees to go back to their businesses and create inclusive cultures.”

This event was designed for leaders and influencers in Ames and Story County, particularly those who impact hiring and decision-making in the workplace and who impact organizational culture and environment.

“The inclusive organization is both ambitious and attainable,” said Reginald Stewart, Ph.D., Vice President for Diversity and Inclusion at Iowa State University. “A compelling argument can be made for organizations to actively engage in cultivating more inclusive workplaces and when the opportunity presented itself to partner with both the chamber and the city to develop the symposium, we jumped at it. There is a leadership imperative in building inclusive organizations, and we will provide practical strategies aimed at addressing contemporary business issues.”

Save the date for this inaugural event on October 31, 2018, from 7:30am-1:00pm at the Gateway Hotel & Conference Center (2100 Green Hills Drive, Ames). The symposium will begin with breakfast and a keynote speaker, followed by breakout sessions featuring a range of topics aimed at building community and organizational inclusiveness.

More details will be announced at a later date and will be posted at www.AmesChamber.com.
