FAQ: PILOT

Posted on August 26, 2019 at 3:00 PM by Allee Wengert

PILOT is a new program designed to provide high school juniors and seniors throughout Story County the opportunity to develop core values like philanthropy, inclusion, leadership, opportunity and teamwork. These five events will take place throughout the year in partnership with high schools throughout the County. Check out this FAQ developed by our Workforce Coordinator and PILOT Leader, Allee Wengert, and sign your high school student up today!

Is there a cost to participate?

No, all events are free to attend but registration and a signed parent/guardian permission slip is required.

Can I miss school to attend the events?

Yes, as long as you are registered and have turned in your signed permission slip, you will receive an excused absence from school. All registration lists will be shared with the schools so administration will know who will be gone for the day.

Who can participate?

All high school juniors and seniors currently enrolled in a Story County school are welcome to participate!

What do I need to do to participate?

All students must register online and submit a parent/guardian permission slip. Permission slips may be downloaded or picked up in the school office and must be returned prior to the first event you attend.

Will unregistered attendees be allowed to participate?

No, unfortunately unregistered attendees will not be allowed to participate and will be expected go to school for the remainder of the day. If someone arrives and is not on the registration list, but they have a confirmation email and have turned in their completed parent/guardian permission slip, they will be able to participate.

Can I participate if I register but forget to turn in my parent/guardian permission slip?

For safety purposes, students who have not turned in a signed permission slip will not be allowed to participate. They will be expected go to school for the remainder of the day.

Will there be food?

Yes, lunch, water and snacks will be provided at each event.

Can I bring a friend?

Yes, just make sure they are registered online and have turned in a completed parent/guardian permission slip.

How many events are there?

There are five events held throughout the school year from 8:15am – 3:00pm.

  1. Friday, September 20, 2019
  2. Friday, November 8, 2019
  3. Friday, January 31, 2020
  4. Friday, February 21, 2020
  5. Friday, April 3, 2020

Do I need to bring anything?

No, we will have everything you may need for the activities.

I registered but I won’t be able to make it, is that okay?

No problem! Please email Allee at allee@ameschamber.com to let her know.

I have practice or an event after school, can I leave early?

Yes. Please let Allee know ahead of time and sign out with a Senior Captain before you leave.

I can’t make the first event; can I still participate in the other events?

Absolutely!

I live out of town, is transportation provided?

We can help with transportation. Email Allee at allee@ameschamber.com for more information.

Do I have to complete a service project as a part of the program?

No, but it is strongly encouraged! Those who complete a project will receive a Community Involvement Certificate in addition to the program’s Leadership Certificate.

I’m interested in being a Senior Captain next year. What do I need to do to apply?

Applications will open Spring 2020. To be considered, you must attend four of the five events AND complete a service project. Stay tuned for more information.

What happens if I register but don’t attend?

If you register but do not check in by 8:30, we will let your school know.
